In the market, a lovely brocante shop sells beautiful linens, including antique embroidered sheets that are a dream to sleep under! We will enjoy lunch at Le JArdin followed by an afternoon tour and degustation of the Truffle Farm.

Pech Merle

Tour of Pech Merle Cave and Museum

Pech Merle is a cave which under a hillside above Cabrerets in the Lot department of the Occitanie region in France, about 32 km by road east of Cahors. It is one of the few prehistoric cave painting sites in France that remains open to the general public. Extending over 2 kilometres over two levels, of which only 1,200 m (3,900 ft) are open to the public, are caverns, wells and sloping tunnels, the walls of which are painted with dramatic murals dating from the Gravettian culture (some 25,000 years BC). Some of the paintings and engravings, however, may date from the later Magdalenian era (16,000 years BC).

We will arrive and park in the Amphitheater Parking lot where a Roman ruin was discovered in excavation and left in place. On foot we will visit the bustling food Market, the best preserved medieval fortified bridge of Pont Valentré, the Cathedral and cloister of St Étienne, the Musee Henri Martin, and the home of Henri IV.

Maison Breton

Private Tour of the home of the founder of Surrealism

Enjoy a private tour of this fortified house with Gothic windows. It is the oldest inhabited building in the village with a 14th c. tower. Formerly it was the home of Andre Breton, writer, philosopher and artist who founded Surrealism. He spent every summer at the end of his life in the company of surrealist artists such as Dali and ManRay. It is now renovated and newly opened as a world class arts center which hosts the International Center of Surrealism. It reveals a visitor's journey in direct line with the thought of the poet: thematic exhibition spaces, hanging gardens, associative café, Librotech, artists' residences, and university research center. The artistic center also includes 3 other connected medieval spaces: the Rignault house, the Fourdonne room and the Lespañol house.

Chateau Cenevieres

The castle of Cénevières first appears in 763. During more than 1 hour of visit, the many layers of its history and architecture will be revealed. You will see 10 furnished rooms of the XII, XVI, and XVIII ° s with tapestries, a library, a XVI ° ceiling decorated with tulips and the city of Constantinople. Included is a very rare Alchemy cabinet with paintings on the theme of Ovid's Metamorphoses. The tour ends with an old kitchen with utensils, dungeons, a chapel and a prison, old weapons and armor.
